I generally shoot at f4, and at f4 the f2.8 is better than the 24-105L wide open. If you need less DOF, then 24-70mm at f2.8. If you shoot at f4, 24-70mm better resolution, but if slow speed, the 24-105mm IS can make the difference (resolution vs. shaking).
Apr 8, 2011 at 13:17. A normal zoom on a 35mm camera has traditionally meant about 28-75 or 80mm. The 24-105mm on a crop body yields an angle of view of about 38-168mm on a FF body. It looks like Canon has gone backwards on they line of L lens with this one.
