Long term time lapse photo's - Hero 9. I'm seeking advice regarding long term time lapse photo options for the hero 9. In the settings it allows us to set up to a 60 minute time lapse between frames, however between shots the camera seems to go into "idle" mode rather than shut down. This means the camera runs quite hot and uses a lot of battery.

Take out the battery and have the camera powered by the cable. Never tried it but I'd imagine you'd just keep swapping out external power banks. In the 5-10 seconds it takes to disconnect one and plug in a fresh one, the internal Gopro battery would just take over and keep it powered. ETA: Just in case someone comes back to this thread and had

GoPro Hero Session – Battery Life. The Session lasted three hours and 35 minutes on a timelapse set to take 8-megapixel photos once every 10 seconds with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. Not How long can you do a time-lapse for? Theoretically, you can do a time-lapse forever – in practice, battery life can put a limit on your creativity. On iPhones and some other smartphones, the time-lapse mode consumes less battery than regular video. The battery might last around 2:30 to 3 hours. The camera will work normally when powered from an external power source 5V 1A (5V 2A recommended for HERO9 Black) via USB-C cable. This is perfect for capturing long videos and time-lapse events. However, even though your camera is charging, the battery will not charge during recording. It will start charging when you stop recording.
However, with a fully charged battery, a GoPro camera can generally last for several hours of time-lapse recording, depending on the interval time and duration settings used. For example, with an interval time of 5 seconds and a duration of 8 hours, a GoPro HERO 9 Black can last for approximately 2.5 hours of time-lapse recording.
On average, the GoPro lasted for about an hour and a half which isn’t quite as long as I’d hoped, but it is a 20 percent increase over last year’s camera in similar testing (minus GPS).
Turn on your GoPro camera. Select ‘Video’ using the front button. Press the ‘Settings’ button on the side of your GoPro. Select ‘Night lapse Mode’ from the menu. Set the settings, including interval time and other elements you want to refine. Once everything is set up, press the top button to start shooting.
Great for long time lapse video (some manage to do a 12-hour footage) The Setbacks: No more waterproofing capabilities (wall chargers & portable batteries are not waterproof) Without the battery in the device, it can shut down if the external power goes off; Your gear won’t really “charge” while recording, but you can use it nonetheless
Hero 8 time lapse settings for longest duration on Battery? Hi, i want to document the construction of my house with time lapse. But I can’t get the battery to last more than just over 3h before it is completely dead. Been disabling WiFi, gps and voice control and reduced to low or medium quality - still with 30s or 2min intervals it is SAC6Myz.
