If the Battery is weak - the clicking is all the relays in the car - Opening and closing the switchs as the voltage is 12v (Activates switch+click) the voltage drops - relays Break the circuits (Switchs deactivate) I'd be looking at the ignition Barrell.

No problem until I pulled into a garage near home to refuel. I had to wait a couple of minutes to get onto a pump, was sat in Auto1, when the engine started to labour and shake the vehicle. The gearlever was non-responsive, couldn't get into neutral so I stopped the engine. This cleared the fault.
Hi guys,Im new to the forum.Does anyone know the location of the starter motor relay on a 07 plate Doblo 1.9 jtd. :)
Jan 2, 2015. #1. Hello to everyone on motorhome fun. This is my first post and i'm looking for a bit of help/guidance. I have a 1990 fiat ducato 2.5td and the cold start relay doesn't seem to work as it should. When i turn the ignition on the light flicks on then off again and its tacking a lot of crancking to get her going these days.
There was apparently a number of Ducato produced with dodgy connections to the starter motor where the positive was only resting, a current applied had the effect of a bimetallic spring but a reduced voltage meant that the starter didnt turn. Just worth checking this as well. hope this helps Phil
I had a similar problem with a motorhome several years ago and ended up having to push the van to start it or park it on a hill. I ended up removing the battery and engine earth straps, cleaning the terminals coating the terminals with petroleum jelly and refitting them, that sorted out the problem.
Aug 4, 2015. #8. Faulty glow plugs may make it difficult to start but would not make it turn over slowly. To remove the earth straps from your diagnosis try using a good jump cable from the battery negative to the starter motor, attaching it to a mounting bolt would be good, then try turning it over.
Nov 3, 2021. #5. Hi rceddie. This (to the best of my knowledge) is how an immobiliser of this era is supposed to work. The immobiliser section in the vehicle sends an AC signal at about 125 kHz (a low radio frequency) to the "reader" antenna coil mounted around the key opening in the lock barrel.
Feb 16, 2016. #1. My Ducato motorhome has developed a problem, temperature guage hovers just above 50, but the Red light on the dash keeps coming on.Main fan activates at 90 but the secondary doesn't. Oil is 10.40 semi. Both relays have been replaced.
Communicator. As suggested above for the starting problem, check the condition of battery positive, and earth connections first. As suggested by earlier posts. poor contact in the ignition switch could also be the cause of cranking problems. With the failure of the engine to stop, there are two possible causes.
Having spent a day trying to find the problem I can rule out starter motor as on removing it and checking; it runs fine. Seems no power signal is getting from the ecu to the solenoid. Ignition switch seems OK turning it energises the various relays but nothing to the solenoid.
You ought to get someone to check voltage at starter motor whilst it is running. You could have a sticky ignition barrel or sticky solenoid. Either way it could be operating just enough after starting that the starter motor won't run but solenoid is active, it then overheats, only went cooled it reverts to original position to start all over again.
8) Hi, This is well known problem with the Ducato and is documented on this site somewhere. I thought it was one batch of vehicles in mid 2003. I have a Timberland 2003 ducato that I had completely resprayed last year. The roof was rusty and and the rest of the van was not much better. It was a silver one.

Well , it started off with when engine hot after long drives I turn engine off and try to restart, nothing, new battery and battery full. Have to wait till cooled off, so changed starter motor , seems to help but still
